<description>The Narragansetts are an interesting tribe. Despite their recent contentious, tumultuous and at times embarrassing history the Narragansetts are a historically very important tribe.

Many words that have found their way into the American English lexicon, and unfortunately western films, are of Narragansett and Wampanoag origin. Papoose, pow-wow, wampum and the RI favorite quahog are all native Wampanoag words.

RI and Roger Williams certainly owe a lot to the Narragansetts.

What Cheer!
